Uh oh! Plagiarism & Turnitin.com

Plagiarism is stealing someone else work and claiming it as your own.It comes in many forms, Pirating music and DVDs, or stealing at work. Plagiarism is a big deal. You don't want to mistakenly or purposely steal someone else work. THAT IS A CRIME punishable by law. Can you imagine that conversation?

Big Buff Guy in Jail: I'm doing a dime for stabbing this guy who tried to steal my lady. What you in for?
You: I plagiarized something. I plagiarized it so bad they had to put me in here. I don't play when it comes to plagiarizing.

If you're lucky he won't even know what Plagiarism is, but if you're unlucky, lets just say you don't want to be in jail for plagiarism.

Turn It IN:

When writing papers there is this website called Turnitin.com that will tell you how much of the paper was plagiarized. I know! I know! What a wonderful invention! This allows me as a future teacher to check my students papers and make sure they are not Copy,Cutting and Pasting. It is a very good tool.

To get a good gist Turnitin works...I submitted two papers. The first one was copied, cut and pasted directly from the Internet. The website said I had 100% worth of work that did NOT belong to me. I was happy for a second, but that's not a good thing.

Then it listed the websites where I had gotten the info from. BUMMER!! I had got caught in the crime of plagiarism and turnitin.com had proof.
The next paper I submitted received  0%. It was completely original. It contained only my thoughts. SHOCKER!! The quality of that paper is questionable.

Lets Create a Concept Map using *drumroll* INSPIRATION8

*So, I am really starting to like this Blogging thing. I can get down with this. If only it wasn’t for a grade.

CREATE A CONCEPT MAP:

So, I had to create a Concept Map using Inspiration. (Insert definition of a concept map here).
When creating a concept map you have to present a broad subject and break it down into subtopics. Then you have to make it beautiful to the eye and useful to other people. Why? Because other people like using other peoples stuff. It’s just easier. Plus, a lot of people are not that creative.

 USE INSPIRATION:

Step 1: Decide on a topic- I wavered between: The planets, The body systems, life cycle of a plant but I finally decided on The 5 senses.
Step 2: Decide on your subtopics
Step 3: Create a rough sketch before you start your final sketch in Inspiration8 (DownloadInspiration8 if you don't have it. It is a free 30 day trial…luckily I only needed like 2 days to create my Concept Map)
Step 4: Create Concept Map
So here is my final Concept Map

Isn't it Beautimous?

Introduction

ABOUT ME:
Hi, my name is Marquisha Denise Flanagan. I am 23 years old. I am from Kosciusko MS. Kosciusko is most famous for being Oprah Winfrey’s hometown. She’s given us a boys and girls club. In all of my 23 years of living, I have only seen her once, when the Boy’s and Girl’s club was built.
This is my last semester of classes at the University of Southern Miss. My Major is in Elementary Education with an emphasis in English. I hope to teach literature or English. I enjoy reading a lot.

RANDOM INFO:
My birthday is January 15th which would make me a CAPRICORN. I am a hard worker and very stubborn.  I am in the Army Reserves! I have been in for almost three years now. I love it! Army Strong!! HOOAH!! I have a one year old son (19 month old). His name is Khayson, but I call him Bam-Bam. (Like the FLINTSTONES character) I loved the Flintstones when growing up. His nickname before I knew he was a boy was Ling-Ling. I hope he never finds that little bit of info out.

WHAT MIGHT I LEARN in IT365:
I hope to learn from this class how to add technology into the lessons I will be teaching in my future classroom. Technology is very important and can be incorporated into every subject; you just have to figure out how. The purpose of this BLOG-FOLIO will be to demonstrate my progress in this class and all that I have learned. I hope to leave this class knowing a lot of tips and activities to incorporate into my future classroom.
